In my Copy editing class, we work collaboratively with Capital News Service to thoroughly proofread and fact-check stories written by students in the capstone course. These stories then become published by different news outlets. My team and I have made great progress over the semester, gaining the eye of a true copyeditor. I’m accustomed to writing stories rather than copy editing, so it’s been cool to acquire this skill. It has positively influenced the way I approach my news writing. Here is a link to one of the most recent published stories my group and I copyedited by Sam Bradley: https://lnkd.in/epUDbwsq.

In my Media Productions class, we have been creating wraps and packages with the Sony NX camera. Although initially intimidating, I have started to embrace the fun that comes with recording! Today in class we started working with a Canon DSLR camera. I am excited to continue building my multimedia skills for the rest of the semester!

Reflecting on my time as a contributing spectrum writer for The Commonwealth Times, I'm overwhelmed with gratitude for the incredible journey it has been. I initially set a goal to write a minimum of five stories this semester. I am now currently working on my 6th story and each piece has been a stepping stone in my growth as a writer. Here’s a copy of my third story which made the front cover of the newspaper! Thank you Emily McCauley & Peggy Stansbery for your guidance and support throughout the semester! I also want to thank Katie Farthing for mentioning The Commonwealth Times in a class we had together last semester; this inspired me to put my writing out there and it’s been one of the best decisions I’ve made. Excited to see where this journey takes me next!

During this spring semester I’ve honed in on a lot of valuable skillsets such as familiarizing myself with Adobe Auditions and Premiere. Last semester I learned how to use Adobe Ilustrator/Photoshop/InDesign. Any software on creative cloud is tedious and time consuming, but it is an immensely useful skill. I am proud of the progress I’ve made this past school year and I’m excited to translate these skills in a professional workplace!

I recently celebrated my 23rd birthday this week and as I start this new era, I’ve reflected on some of my goals for the year. 1. Secure an internship! Internships are crucial in gaining experience but also help build your network and allow you to master skillsets. 2. Get finances in order. I would love to move to New York after graduation in December but it’s not a cheap city! I want to make sure I am financially ready before making such a big change.3. Stay active. I can feel drained after work and classes which leads me to skipping a planned workout. Exercising is not only a great physical outlet but also a mental and emotional one. It is a form of self love and discipline. 4. Don’t stress about the little things. I can overthink a lot of things making me feel anxious but this is a useless habit, I need to trust everything will happen the way it’s intended to.5. Make more memories. I’m growing up! I don’t want to let life continue to pass me by. I want to cherish every single moment.
